In 1997 during the peak of comet Hale-Bopp, I made a comment to my wife that I always wanted a telescope but never bothered to buy one. For Christmas 1997, she bought me a Meade model 290 60mm refractor. I took it outside that night and pointed to the easiest deep sky object I could find, M42. Even though the scope was only 60mm and had .965 eyepieces, I was hooked. My wife had no idea what she started.
A few months later a friend told about a friend they had that bought a scope to see Halleys Comet in 1986, and never used it again so I bought the whole setup, including photo equipment. The scope was a Celestron C-8 on a Super Polaris mount, which I later changed to a Celestron CI-700. With a good scope and mount, I started doing astrophotography. Since then, I have switched to a Celestron 9 1/4" that stays in my observatory for photography, a Stellarvue AT1010 80mm short tube refractor for wide field photos, 2 dobs (8" Light Bridge and 10" home built) that I take to my clubs star parties and various other scopes and equipment that have come and gone.
A couple of years later I came up with an idea to make the Telrad easier to use with various sky atlas'. I called it the Telguide. I sold the Telguide for over 5 years then decided to discontinue the product. Sales were down to 1 every couple of months so it was time to bring it to an end. I still see them in use every now and then at star parties and smile at the small impact I had on the hobby.
